The Basel School of Business welcomes graduate students who come from diverse academic and professional backgrounds but share the vision and determination to work towards broadening the horizons of business knowledge. The Basel Executive MBA Program admits new students three times per year, for the Fall, Winter, and Spring terms. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year; however, we recommend that you submit all of your materials at least one month prior to the start of the term.

 

Admissions Criteria

The Admissions Committee examines a candidate’s potential for success both in the EMBA program and after graduation. We evaluate not only your academic abilities, but also your motivation, character, career performance and leadership ability.

 

The following 5 themes are used to evaluate an applicant:

Application Process

 

The application process is your opportunity to introduce yourself by reflecting upon past successes and failures, and looking into your future by explaining how a graduate degree fits into your personal and professional goals. The admissions committee evaluates not only your academic abilities, but also your motivation, character, career performance and leadership ability.

 

Step 1:  Collect and Send in all the application documents.

The easiest is online, but you can also send them by mail or drop them off at our downtown campus.

2. Curriculum Vitae

Submit a current CV, which reflects all relevant personal, professional and academic experience. You may upload your CV into the application system.

3. Academic Transcripts

All applicants must have completed an undergraduate degree at an accredited university. Please provide transcripts from every institution that you have attended, even if you did not receive a degree.

You may submit an unofficial copy with your application; however, we require official transcripts if you are accepted for study. Foreign credentials in a language other than English, German or French must be officially translated into English. You may upload your unofficial transcripts into the application system.

4. Two References

Please provide contact information for two references who can attest to your skills and character. At least one reference must be someone who can evaluate your leadership potential, such as a current supervisor. If you are self-employed or work in a family business, please provide a reference from a customer, supplier or other professional. The second reference may come from anyone who can add new and valuable insights to your application. Please ensure that both recommenders know you well enough to offer specific examples of your performance and character. You may provide the email addresses of your references into the application system.

Please provide the referees’ full names and email addresses.They will receive an email with a link to an online form. They can also email, fax or mail their recommendations directly to the admissions office.

5. Application Essay

At The Basel School of Business, we are looking for students who share our vision of “a vibrant intellectual community in which to promote scholarship and growth.” We believe that the EMBA program should be a transformative experience, and our students are able to “make the world a better place.” The application essay is our opportunity to learn more about your background and your goals.

Please answer the following topics in your application essay:

  • Please describe an instance in your life when you felt that you had the most positive impact on your workplace, community, family or the world.
  • What positive impact will you have on your peers while you are a student at The Basel School of Business?
  • After graduation from business school, what kind of positive impact would you like to have?

The essay should be a maximum of 1,000 words.

6. English Language Proficiency

Applicants whose native language is not English should submit proof of English language proficiency. This requirement can be waived for applicants who have completed at least one academic year of university-level coursework in English.

The minimum requirements for admission are:

  • TOEFL - 570
  • TOEFL iBT – 90
  • IELTS - 6.5

7. Application Fee

The application fee of CHF 150 can be paid online or by bank transfer. You will receive the details upon submitting your application. You can also pay the application fee by clicking here.

8. Optional: Standardized Test Scores 

You may choose to submit your GMAT or GRE scores if you wish to supplement your application. If you choose to submit your scores, they must be less than five years old. Scores older than that are older than five years are not considered valid and will not be accepted.

 

Step 2: Interview

Once your application is complete, the admissions team will arrange for you to interview with a member of our faculty at our downtown campus, or online for applicants who live outside the local area.

The interview is an important aspect of the application process. It gives us the opportunity to learn more about you, and for you to learn more about us. We want to make sure you will do well in our environment and that we can help you meet your goals.

 

Step 3:  Decision by the admissions committee

The admissions’ committee reviews your application and the recommendations of your referees and interviewer and will make a decision, usually within 1 to 2 weeks.

You will receive an official letter stating whether you have been accepted or not. If you have been accepted, you need to pay the requested program fee to confirm your enrollment and ensure a seat in the program of your choice.

 

Step 4:  Visa application (international students only)

Once you have confirmed your enrollment, you will receive all the necessary information to apply for a visa.
